Preventive Dentistry Frederick, MD

Preventive Dentistry in Frederick, MD 21702 with Colliver Dental GroupPreventing future issues with your oral care is important. Here at the Colliver Dental Group, we place a lot of emphasis on preventing problems in the future. There are a lot of procedures we can do to help prevent future problems. If you want to help keep your teeth as healthy as you can for as long as possible, then you should come in and see what we can do for you.

Dental Cleanings, Exams and X-rays
Regular dental cleanings helps keep the plaque from building up on your teeth, and from slipping under your gums. We do thorough exams to make sure that your mouth is healthy in all areas, and to look for signs of potential problems. The earlier we can catch a problem, the easier it will be to treat! One of the common procedures we offer along with a cleaning and exam is to take a full set of x-rays. This allows us to see inside your teeth and keep an eye out for changes that may be starting where we simply cannot see with the naked eye.

Bite Guards & Mouthguards
One of the more common ways that people hurt their teeth is through issues like grinding and clenching their teeth, which is more commonly called Bruxism. Bite guards can help prevent a lot of the damage that comes with Bruxism. When you clench or grind your teeth, you put an excess amount of pressure on them, which causes them to wear down faster and sometimes crack and fracture. Mouthguards are able to do the same type of thing, but they are used when you are playing sports. Both of these guards are meant to help protect your teeth from damage that could cause a lot more issues down the line.

Gum Disease
Since the vast majority of adults have some form of gum disease, we consider this to be a very important form of preventative dentistry. We will examine your gums closely, as they tell us a lot about the health of your mouth. We will look at them with each exam, and if we start to see signs of gingivitis, we will make sure to get treatment started promptly, avoiding further issues in the future.

Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride works to replace the minerals that are lost on a daily basis, remineralizing your teeth and making them more resistant to decay. Fluoride can also help reverse the earliest signs of tooth decay before they have an opportunity to form cavities.

Oral Cancer Screening
Part of our regular examination of your mouth is looking for early signs of oral cancer. As with any type of cancer, the sooner it is detected, the better your chances are of a full recovery. We know what signs to look out for, and Dr. Bill Colliver is always looking for even slight changes in your mouth that could point to larger problems later.

When you want to protect your teeth from decay, one of the best ways to do that is to prevent it from having anywhere to even begin. Sealants cover your teeth like a layer of varnish, and keep the foods, drinks, and debris that go through our mouth from settling in the small crevices of our mouths. These need to be repeated every few years, so make sure you are consistently coming in for us to help keep your sealants intact.

Restorative Dentistry Frederick, MD

Dental Bridges
Restorative Dental Services with Colliver Dental in Frederick, MDDental bridges offer our patients a fantastic and permanent, tooth replacement option. When multiple consecutive teeth are missing it can be hard to eat of speak properly. Dental bridges give you back the use of teeth that have been lost due to decay or trauma.

Dental bridges require two, healthy teeth on either side to act as anchoring supports. If anchor teeth are not available, a dental implant can often be placed to act as a substitute. Our dental lab uses all the highest quality materials and methods to create all of the prosthetics that we provide to our patients.

Dental Crowns
When a tooth has suffered irreparable damage due to decay or trauma, it will often be necessary to place a crown over it to ensure its viability in the mouth. To place a crown usually requires two visits to our office – the first we prepare your tooth to receive a crown and place a temporary, the second we will place the permanent crown.

Dental lmplants
Dental implants are currently the best tooth replacement option on the market. They provide our patients the full functionality of a natural tooth, which include the ability to eat unhindered. Implants are permanently set in the bone of the jaw and encourage healthy soft tissue and bone growth. As mentioned above, dental implants can even act as anchors for other, larger dental appliances like bridges and full arch solutions.

Dentures & Partial Dentures
Dentures and partial dentures offer our patients a viable tooth replacement option that gives them a reason to smile again. Studies show that tooth loss can wreak havoc, not only on your oral health, but your self-esteem. Dentures are made to look very convincingly like teeth. Full dentures are made to replace all the teeth in the mouth, so often it will be necessary to extract a few existing teeth in order to have full dentures made.

Partial dentures are another removable dental appliance, but these are held in place by the surrounding healthy teeth. Usually they grip the surrounding teeth with a metal frame, clasp, or wire that is hard to see at a glance.

Inlays & Onlays
Teeth have a lot of work to do and the pressures that they are subjected to is impressive. Over time they will get a bit banged up, chips and cracks can compound. When a tooth is in need of restoration we are often able to repair any damage using either inlays or onlays, or both. Inlays are things that we place into the structure of a tooth, like dental fillings. Onlays are things that we place onto a tooth, like a crown or a bridge. Whichever one we end up using, they are primarily used to either restore teeth’s structure, or give you a more beautiful smile.

Inlays and onlays are used to restore portions of the tooth, or to strengthen a tooth. They are alternatives to using fillings or a crown to restore the integrity of the tooth.

Fillings allow us to return the structural integrity of a tooth that has had decay removed from it. There are several different materials available from the silvery looking amalgam fillings to gold and even tooth colored fillings.

Tooth Extractions
A tooth extraction is the procedure done to remove a tooth that is damaged beyond repair from its socket in the jawbone.

Multiple Tooth Extractions
After the teeth have been extracted, it is important to replace them. Replacing extracted teeth will allow you to maintain normal functions and keep your beautiful smile. There are several ways in which teeth can be replaced.

TMJ Therapy
When your TMJ (temporomandibular joint) is misaligned, you may experience headaches, extreme pain in the jaw, and ear or sinus infections.
